From the get-go with those first notes from "Lost Woods", we're primed for a romp through the forests of Hyrule courtesy RebeccaETripp, supplemented by the wind talents of Gamer of the Winds, Medllix, and Steven Higbee! Rebecca dreamt of fashioning the broader medley that this segment is a part of for ages:

"This is part of a much larger medley that I made a little over a year ago. This actually happens to be my favourite of my medleys. Forest themes are the best! This is the thing I'm most proud of, currently. I definitely put a lot of my love into this one! ^^ Here's the whole medley: https://youtu.be/mh0I9rmeEyU. I gave it a different ending and made it shorter!

Here is a list of the songs included:

0:00 - "Lost Woods" (BotW)
1:11 - "Forest Haven" (WW)
2:44 - "Faron Woods" (TP)
4:44 - "Deku Tree" (WW)
5:12 - "Korok Forest" (BotW)

Most of the winds were performed by Gamer of the Winds, Medllix, and Steven Higbee. It was amazing to have you! ^_^ You're the best!"

Back when she was new to OCR, Rebecca debuted with her "Final Fantasy Forest Medley", and wouldn't you know it, she's been an arboreal warrior ever since! Judge Emunator was easily taken in by the intimate soundscape the collaborators crafted:

"This is gorgeous across the board - like Rebecca's best work before this, this is led by some incredibly expressive performances from a variety of collaborators and bolstered by some tastefully-written orchestration and a great variety of supporting percussion. The sources are mixed organically and transition quite seamlessly. Are those bird calls being played on an ocarina or are those actual samples? [...] I really dig this, nice work Rebecca!"

In the same vein, panelist Chimpazilla dug the live players, but also noted the strength of the medley's structure (not something to be taken for granted when you've heard the number of failed "medleyitis" submissions that we have!):

"I love the mashup of all the foresty themes, either in tiny cameo motifs or longer sections, they all go together perfectly. I love the tawny owl calls. This arrangement feels very whimsical and magical. The winds performances are great. The track is very nicely orchestrated and arranged, and mixed well. [...] This is really lovely and may be one of my Rebecca-favorites! (Could the fact that I'm a Zelda superfan factor into it, maybe!)"

We Js were simpatico; this is a solid arrangement that flows pretty nicely between the themes, with rich performances and cohesive textures between the live and sampled instruments. And much like her Tales of Phantasia forest medley, it's always good to hear the birds let loose in terms of the SFX; long may they continue. ;-)
