Our second late-breaking Xmas mix is a comfortable, relaxing, & warm fireside bit of bluegrass from Ryan Davis Music (aka Garpocalypse), arranging dot hack Infection Part 1:

"Hey, judges, this is my track from last year's OverClocked Christmas album based off of dotHack's root town theme. Decided to tackle a bluegrass-inspired track after listening to some wintery bluegrass tunes by dobro god Jerry Douglas."

Larry Oji writes:

"Nice and cozy stuff from Ryan. The lead string sample was too exposed for the first verse but once the other instruments were introduced at :53, the fuller textures sounded lovely and mitigated any realism issues. A great example of going melodically straightforward but personalizing the sound nicely. I loved both the instrumentation tradeoffs and chorusing choices here. Indeed, curl up by the fire and relax! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! :-)"

Can't say it better than that, so I won't - happy holidays to all, and to all a good night!

This is a bonafide foot tapper for sure. I really enjoyed the tone of the acoustic guitar, the additional instruments and effects were excellent also. The tune that starts around 1:42 is my favorite part. ?

Hmm. Hmm Hmm.
One thing I always notice about songs that start off with sound clips as a thematic cast, is that the cast is often dropped or forgotten by the middle of the song.
There is also the potential for the sound bytes to be used in the middle of the song as mood assistants, or even as notes themselves, such as a loud crack from a log breaking could be used as a beat emphasis, or the shuffle of logs could be a small roll (because if someone is tending the fire the logs are going to move)

Talking about environmental noises often makes me wonder if the .Hack// series might come back in VR. Hmmm...

Short (so short!) but sweet. Wish it carried the tune a bit longer. Can't help but think from the title that sound sparingly used ambient fireplace noises might've warmed it up some, too.
