Time to get back on the Paths Less Travelled: Terranigma train, with two more featured mixes, starting with this jazz/funk take on "Fyda" from Nostalvania (Markus), who lays down a syncopated, addictive, & smooooth keys-centric groove:

"Since I'm from Europe, I actually had the pleasure to play Terranigma on the Super Nintendo (still got the cartridge). I really enjoyed the game and its excellent soundtrack, so I'm very happy to be part of its first OCR album! This is also my first album track as a solo artist.

For my contribution, I chose the track "Fyda," because I found it would be very suitable for my remix style. And, of course, it's just a wonderful composition.

The original song is some sort of heroic march. However, for my interpretation, I transported "Fyda" into the realms of jazz and funk. One of the first things I did was changing the time signature to 7/8, my favourite odd meter. For the B section, I switched to a slower 4/4 groove to get some contrast with the more busy sections.

Furthermore, I added some original writing, like at 1:50, a nice little cadence, and also some piano solos.

As for the instrumentation, the track is pretty keyboard-heavy. There is acoustic piano, e-piano/Rhodes, Wurlitzer, and organ. Bass and drums complete the ensemble.

Many thanks to Chimpazilla who did a great job at mastering the track.

On a final note, I want to give credit to Odai for being the album initiator/original director, and also to Trism and Jorito for taking over the project after it was on a very long hiatus."

Ditto all that; I'd also like to give props to Larry Oji, who fought through the flu & an exceptionally busy holiday season at work to help prepare the release for the target date of the game's PAL region birthday - much appreciated. So we get not just Rhodes but Wurli as well, for both classic EP flavors, plus a nice organ with heavy rotary-based panning, PLUS piano, and then drums & bass which are both very present & engaged, not just accompanying the conversation but actively participating in it; superb stuff. It's been a good bit since we posted up some Nostalvania, but this is among his best, and leverages his talents on the keys in several different flavors/colors while also incorporating some of his strongest foundational drum & bass work to date. It's smooth, it's funky, it's got timbral, temporal, & tonal variety, and it's a hella creative & transformative take on the source. Adding some invaluable funk & panache to Paths Less Travelled, Markus has put together one heck of a jam!

I really enjoyed the intro to this, it was well executed. The focus on keys gives this remix a nice fresh quality to it that makes it a joy to listen to. Great stuff!
