For July 4th, American ReMixer Mazedude (Christopher Getman) celebrates fellow American Andrew "zircon" Aversa's game Tangledeep & his soundtrack for it with this quirky, funky, tracker-style take on the "Game Over" theme, off of the Tangledeep ~Arrange~ album:

"What the...? I had no remixes posted in 2018? How weird, since it was actually a very productive year for me. I composed my first full-length original game soundtrack, American Pixels was honored for Best Electronica at the SAMMY Awards, and, yes, I also did some remixing for forthcoming projects.

Well, let's fix that. Allow me to present my contribution to Tangledeep ~Arrange~, another tracker homage that I call "Tanglesleep." Stylistically, this is a nod to Andrew "Necros" Sega, famed tracker of the demoscene days, who I also honored with my "Tangerine Fever" remix. This track specifically mirrors the legendary Necros track "Winter's Dream," a very tracker-iffic tune which I've wanted to pay homage to for a long time... and which the Tangledeep "Game Over" music gave me the opportunity to do. (I do also enjoy the challenge, on occasion, of taking a very short original theme and developing it into a full piece.)

I'm honored to have a remix on the arranged album. Let me also add that I absolutely freakin' love the fact that I'm remixing music from a game that was developed by a friend; great work and cheers to Andrew Aversa, everyone!"

Neat, fusiony stuff; definitely nails the tracker aesthetic, but also packs in a ton of peculiar harmonies and a boatload of fifths. Larry Oji writes:

"Chris brings it with his standard flare. I liked hearing the influence of the sound palette of "Winter's Dream" but also appreciated how distinct this track sounded from that one; there's inspiration for sure, but these are two completely different animals in terms of the tone and mood, thanks in big part to Mazedude's drumwork being much more impactful and integral to "Tanglesleep." Andy's game over theme is a beautiful source tune, and I'm equally impressed with Chris's ability to get so much mileage out of it. This one's a real ride!

While this one isn't from The American Album, it's always fitting to tribute the 4th of July with a Mazedude tribute to an American game composer. Here's to zircon, and be sure to check out Tangledeep for a great roguelike experience, along with the soundtrack AND the arrangement album! :-)"

The game has since been released for the Switch AND seen its first DLC with Legend of Shara, so if you haven't checked out the game or the album, there's no time like the present. Great stuff from MZD w/ tons of character & flavor, from a super-strong album of tributes to a super-strong OST!

The intro certainly woke me up. That bass is remarkably cool and interesting. This remix had more than enough cool chips and bloops to keep things interesting and varied. Excellent job on this!
