DaMonz (Emery Monzerol) gives us a superb, fun, electro-funk take on "Dark World" off of Mirror Image: A Link to the Past ReMixed:

"Hey, there! I should have submitted this a long time ago, but better late that never! :) This is my contribution to the "Mirror Image" album.

This track was very tricky for me. The music for the Dark World has a lot of significance to me, and I wanted to make absolutely sure I did it justice… which is why I ended up restarting my ReMix from scratch multiple times. I tried doing something with a very high intensity, but then I thought that had already been done quite enough, and I wanted my take to be different. So, I tried a few different slow-paced approaches, which turned out to be quite boring (to me, at least). And then, as I was listening to some Vulfpeck, I was struck with the idea of making a funky take with particular attention to the bassline. After that moment, the floodgates were completely lifted, and the track almost made itself on its own. I just had to follow the flow. I had lots of fun making this, and I hope it will live up to the assuredly high expectations of such an acclaimed source track!"

Virtually anything that follows the statement "...as I was listening to some Vulfpeck..." is *bound* to be good, right? And this is great: high energy, some funkdafied & tweaked up solo work, a lovely little muted bass guitar bit, and a take on a classic theme that aims for swing & sass instead of epic bombast or brooding mystery. Gario sums it up well:

"Goodness, there can't be too many Link to the Past Dark World remixes, in my opinion - it's just such a great track. The way this handles the material is quite delicious, to boot - aside from the 9-bit goodness that he's shown he's a master of in the past, he handles the rhythms of the source in a way that just pop out at you. Special shout-out to the bass at 2:38: the way it varies in order to accompany the otherwise straight build is absolutely gorgeous. Another great track from an otherwise amazing album - great work!"

Agreed; everything's sweet, but the syncopation is indeed the star, and makes the whole thing rather a wonderful ride. As a side note, Emery has been instrumental in taking over as lead developer for our custom music visualizer, so I tried to make the sure the YouTube video for this (and all future Mirror Image featured mixes) did his work justice. Superb, funky work that makes "Dark World" a pretty damn fun world & earns its place along the other amazing tracks on the album!

Great drums and awesome slinkiness of the lead (cool undertones in that, too!) on top. Groovy as gravy. Or something. Maybe syrup.

I was jamming the whole time, major props! Definitely up to your usual standards, maybe even one of your best works yet.
