Extended dance techno goodness from Disco Dan in the form of Mega Man 2's Heat Man music. I liked this track because it doesn't feel likes it's trying to kick your ass i.e. it's not going for the over-the-top techno that I myself find hard to resist doing, but shows solid restraint and knowledge of how to make a good, evolving mix. Solid, sequenced feel, with a same-note throbbing bassline forming the foundation of the mix, with a kick-heavy drum track that doesn't get in the way of the shimmering, delayed square wave synth bits, muted, warm analog pads, and surprising (and great) brass. It's the brass that specifically gives this piece some real character, as you'd usually expect entirely electronic elements in a mix like this, and the inclusion of "real" instruments (well, ok, they're still electronic emulations) adds just the right amount of color. The downward-upward filtered percussion addition at 0'54" that comes back later in the track is a wonderful detail, again something that you notice but that doesn't stand out too blatanly. Both the intro and ending, if not never-been-done-before, are implemented with quality and professionalism. Just a very well-polished piece that I can't see not getting funky to, myself. Excellent surfing / programming music as well - I found myself getting into some of the PHP stuff I'm working on for this site more than I should while listening to this track on repeat. Definitely recommended.
