I've gotten Jon Talbain, Morrigan, Lord Raptor and Lilith redone and touched up. I'll work on the other three tomorrow, as I'm tired now.

I PM:d the Coop and informed him that Lilith and Morrigan are already done but that he can post those bios anyway. I hope you don't mind, Lin... I don't know if you wanted your bios replaced or not, but I'm sure we can combine the two bios somehow when we start wrapping things up.

Solid Snake

KONAMI

ocr4_mascot65.jpg

Is this one any different? ocr4_mascot107.jpg

Yes and no.. the former is the clone of the latter, Big Boss. BB has his own history shown in Snake Eater, so he warrants a seperate bio. Still, I hadn't noticed that mascot.

I'd do BB, but I haven't finished the game yet. Been meaning to do that.

Jon Talbain

1994

Capcom

-Story-

Born in England in 1940, Jon spent many years searching for a way to be rid of his werewolf self. Though he used martial arts to sharpen and strengthen his mind and body, the savagery of his hidden beast was something he wanted to leave behind. As if knowing what he wanted, at some point in his past, he was told by an mysterious woman that his curse would end the day he exceeded all his limits. With this in mind, Jon set out on a quest... a quest that would eventually bring him face to face with others like himself.

Continuing to train in martial arts, he searched for ways to push himself further. It wasn't long before his path led to other Darkstalkers, and one by one, Jon fought his way through them. Having defeated all who stood before him, the werewolf reached Pyron, a powerful alien creature made up of energy. A vicious battle ensued, and Jon came out the victor. With this triumph, Jon changed back into a human, and for a time, he believed that his curse had been lifted. But as curses have a habit of doing, this one wasn't to be gotten rid of so easily.

Some time after his battle with Pyron, Jon felt his body shaking. The animal that he thought had been tamed, had only been subdued briefly. Once again, his blood burned as the curse returned, and brought with it something dark... something primal.

Haunted by nightmares, Jon learned that somehow the beast he had tried to free himself from had taken on a life of it's own with his very shadow. With no idea of how or why this happened, Jon had little time to mull it over before a faint voice began to call to him. It invited him from somewhere in the darkness. It was a call he couldn't refuse, as the answer to what was happening within him may have been at its source.

His new journey took him from the human world, to the void of Majigen, a world created by the Dark Messiah Jedah, who sought to bring peace to Makai by uniting every soul there. Once again, he fought his way through the Darkstalkers, eventually reaching the shadow version of himself. Jon's mirror image taunted and belittled him for clinging to humanity, enraging the werewolf that it had been a part of not long ago. When words were over, a savage battle began, but it didn't take long before Jon stood victorious over the dark reflection of himself. He took a moment to ponder whether or not he should learn what his shadow-self knows. But in that moment of thought, the shadow beast wandered off, leaving Jon with a single remaining question...

Should he go after his shadow-self and learn what it knows, or should he return to the world of humanity, where a pair of children, eager to learn the ways of martial arts, await him?

Lilith

1997

Capcom

-Story-

Lilith's tale began at the same time Morrigan's did (Scotland, 1678). When Morrigan was born, she had an excessive amount of evil power within her. Berial, her father who was one of the kings of Makai and its true ruler, sealed off this power in hopes of keeping Morrigan from self destructing do to the uncontrollable nature of that power. But while Morrigan enjoyed her life of carefree and adventurous fun, the sealed power began to take on a shape of its own as it watch Morrigan. After three hundred years, this locked away power eventually took the shape of a young female succubus named Lilith Aenslaed. But Lilith wouldn't stay sealed off forever.

Jedah called out to Lilith as she sat in her dark prison. He offered her a chance to finally have a body of her own, but only if she helped him gather up all the souls that he deemed as the most valuable ones. Lilith quickly agreed, and soon her dark prison was a thing of the past. However, her new found freedom came at a price. Lilith, still only being power given form, was slowly fading away now that she was no longer sealed. As such, her time to find a body was limited. But Lilith knew whom she wanted to be a part of. She wanted to rejoin with the person she'd been separated from centuries ago. She wanted, Morrigan.

Setting off into the Majigen void, Lilith fought her way through any Darkstalkers that crossed her path, finding a strange joy in all the battles and the fluids that came from those she conquered. One by one, they fell before her, until Lilith finally reached the one she'd been seeking. With little time, Lilith took the fight to Morrigan, and proved to the be stronger fighter. Her victory came just as her physical form was nearing its end. Crawling with her last bits of strength, Lilith reached out to where Morrigan lay unconscious, and toughed the would-be ruler of the Aenslaed family's left hand. With her last act, Lilith successfully became a part of Morrigan once again. Though she lost her individual identity, she regained the body she'd been taken from.

When Morrigan awakened, she had a new sense of rejuvenation. Everything seemed so much more alive and fresh to her as she took in the surrounding world. Once she returned to Aenslaed Castle, Morrigan put the Aenslaed ring on her left hand much to the surprise of her servants. She could feel the desire of her hand to wear the ring, though why it did was unknown to her. At last, Morrigan now showed that she was the master of the Aenslaed family.

Morrigan

1994

Capcom

-Story-

In 1678, Morrigan Aenslaed was born in a region of Scotland. Taking her name from an ancient queen of Scotland, she is both the daughter of Berial (a Demon King and true ruler of Makai), and a succubus. Though she is a demon that appears before men in their dreams to draw energy from them in a most sexual fashion, Morrigan also leads a life of her own in the real worlds she visits and lives in... one that's carefree and centered around simply having fun. But this life of pleasure is often at the expense of a heavy burden that she's willing to set down on nearly any whim.

Being the daughter of Berial, she was always the next in line to be the ruler of the Aenslaed family. When Berial died, it was her duty to step up and take his place. However, Morrigan didn't want to leave the fun life she'd become accustomed to over the centuries. As such, the throne for the Aenslaed family remained empty, and Morrigan continued doing what she enjoyed. Among those activities, were her occasional excursions into the human world. During one of these treks, she came across a number of Darkstalkers whom she fought for fun to alleviate her boredom. She would later come face to face with Pyron, a powerful alien made up of energy, and defeat him. After absorbing his essence, she returned to her castle in the demon world. However, while she played, other forces were at work in the shadows of her frivolity.

To the Vampire lord Demitri, an exile from Makai who'd been banished to the human world when he challenged Berial and lost, Morrigan was an obstacle. He wished nothing less than to have her out of his way in one form or another so that he could claim the power he'd tried to get in the past. But Demitri wasn't the only one who had plans with Morrigan. Another Succubus named Lilith, who looked very much like a young girl despite being as old as the succubus she chased, not only wanted Morrigan, but needed her. Lilith had once been a part of Morrigan's power when green haired succubus was born, and was freed by Jedah (the Dark Messiah who wants to bring peace to Makai by joining all the souls there). She required Morrigan's body to continue to exist, and with this need, Lilith set out to find Morrigan. Because Morrigan's castle had been pulled into Majigen, a void created by Jedah to carry out his plans, it wasn't long before the two met.

In a brutal fight, Morrigan bested Lilith. She knew that Lilith needed a body to stay alive, and at first, Morrigan simply taunted the young succubus with her body. In a moment of apparent pity, Morrigan knelt down next to Lilith as the young demoness was fading. After a moment, Morrigan held Lilith, and allowed Lilith to come into her body. With this, Morrigan's broken power was whole again, and everything around her seemed fresh and new. Soaring over the human world, Morrigan reveled in the new feeling, and couldn't help but wonder if it had come from that young girl she'd been confronted by.

Lord Raptor

1994

Capcom

-Story-

Born in 1889 somewhere in Australia, Lord Raptor was what one could call, “Less than friendly”. However, his murderous lifestyle would enable him to cheat death some twenty years after he died. Ozomu, one of the Demon Kings of Makai, noticed Raptor, and chose to resurrect him. The Demon King gave him dark powers so that he might serve by ridding Makai and any other worlds of Darkstalkers. The zombie took this power and set out to do Ozomu's bidding. As he made his way through the human world, Raptor was introduced to metal music. He took a liking to it, and soon took up an electric guitar to trash out his own brand of speed metal (an odd trait given he was born in the Victorian era).

But just as he was in life, so Lord Raptor was in death.

Not one to be content spending an eternity serving a master, Raptor had a plan that involved more than just killing for the sake of gaining more power from Ozomu. But for his plan to work, Raptor had to do exactly that. As a result, the undead zombie tore a bloody path through any Darkstalkers he came across, until he finally arrived at Pyron, an energy-based alien of great power. Though seemingly out matched, the crafty zombie out fought the alien, and took Pyron down.

With this victory, Ozomu appeared before Raptor, and granted him more of the power that he sought. But as Ozomu did this, he also reminded the undead rocker that while he would rule the world, it would still be Ozomu that ruled him. Such words did not sit well with Raptor, and the moment the Demon King left, the zombie spoke of his plans... to become the ruler of Makai, starting with taking Ozomu's place. And though Ozomu wasn't there to hear his words, Raptor's plans were far from hidden.

Ozomu had learned of Lord Raptor's plan from Le Malta, a small creature that had been tagging along wherever the zombie went. The creature was in fact a spy for Ozomu, sent to keep an eye on Lord Raptor. But before any action could be taken, Ozomu disappeared. The now empty Doma Castle that Ozomu had ruled from, was engulfed in a raven-black rift that was a gateway into Majigen, a dimension created by Jedah, the self proclaimed Dark Messiah who sought to bring peace to a troubled dimension by uniting all its souls.

Returning to where Doma Castle had been, Lord Raptor found the gateway into Majigen. He could feel the power coming from this rift, and knew that someone on the other side was waiting for him. Stepping into the rift with Le Malta in tow, Lord Raptor once again battled his way through the other Darkstalkers until he reached the one who had brought him and the others into this strange dimension... Jedah. After a fierce battle, Lord Raptor proved to be the better of the two. With Jedah's death, the power held by the Dark Messiah was unleashed, and Lord Raptor began to absorb it. The zombie could almost taste his plans coming to fruition as his body took in the energy. However, the power was too much for Lord Raptor's rotted form to handle, and the zombie rocker was blown to pieces by the very power he tried to take.

But you can't keep an undead rocker down. Even as Lord Raptor's head fell to the ground, he still managed to mutter, "Damn! Got greedy again."

Nice work Coop. :)

Not much else to be said for this one at the moment. If the project does drag enough for FF12 to be released first, then someone who owns the game can go back and redo something, I suppose. Nothing stopping post project release editing anyway.

Penelo

SQUARE-ENIX

2006

ocr4_mascot115.jpg

Released to the world in 2006, Square Enix’s ‘Final’ Fantasy game for the PS2 starred Penelo as one of the cast. Her home is Rabanastre, a vast city of the land of Ivalice, previously seen in Final Fantasy Tactics. At 16 years old, her life on the streets has taught her instincts unknown to a girl of higher stature. She learned martial arts from her older, deceased, brother, him being a part of the military. Now an orphan, Penelo makes money working as a dancer in a Rabanastre bazaar.

Her relationship with the main character, Vaan, is a strong friendship with a hint of romantic tension. Somewhat acting as his conscience, she is known to reprimand Vaan for stealing, even given their existence on the streets. Her jovial nature helps bring balance to the core group as the plot progresses. In the Japanese release, Yuna Mikuni was the voice actor for Penelo.

Thanks watkinzez :)

Sorry it took so long to get these done. First it was mid-terms, then I got the chance to write everything up and look up all the games, only to realize how badly some needed a rewrite by the time I was done. That's when I got blindsided by finals.

With any luck, I'll have the other three up tonight, though Bishamon's may be delayed a day. I need to play through Vampire Savior and see Oboro Bishamon's ending again to make sure I got everything (Oboro is the true Bishamon... he's a hidden character in the game). So that might bump it back a bit.

Oh, and I didn't notice the quotes at first, so I just got done adding a quote to the four bios I posted.

Hsien-Ko

1995

Capcom

-Story-

Born in 1730, Hsien-Ko and her sister, Mei-Ling (called Lin-Lin in the third game) lived in a turbulent time of China's past. While they were still young, their mother was killed by a Darkstalker (quite possibly Demitri). Orphaned, heartbroken and angry, the two young girls set out to find who or what had taken their mother from them, not knowing the evil that awaited them.

Their search didn't last long, for they were struck down by an evil force. As they lay dying, each made a vow. One swore to find and free the spirit of their mother, while the other would hunt down the powers of the night and destroy all the Darkstalkers. With this, they each released their final breathes, and their new quest began. They were reborn as Chinese ghosts with strange powers, giving them the ability to carry out their vows. However, their time to do this was not infinite.

Slowly, Hsien-Ko and her sister were becoming the very things they hunted. If they were to free their mother and bring down the beasts of the night, they had to do so before the last of their humanity faded away. It took many years, but the duo confronted and bested all the Darkstalkers they found. They came face to face with Pyron, a powerful alien made of energy, and began a final battle of vengeance that didn't end until Pryon was laying on the ground, defeated.

With their vows carried out, and the soul of their mother was free, the girls collapsed where they stood. But just as the last tendrils of spirit energy left their ghostly bodies, the spirit of their mother appeared. She told them that their sacrifice would not result in their fading into nothingness, but rather a chance at the life that had been taken from them so many centuries ago. At that moment, the essence of Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling were transported into the bodies of two newborn girls, and their lives began anew... free of evil, and filled with happiness. Or was it?

On their sixteenth birthday, the twins each shared an odd dream. When they awoke the next morning, they could feel an unknown energy growing within them. Despite this, they went about their daily business, only to have their lives change yet again the next night. This time, they had no dream, but instead were engulfed in a nightmare. One so powerful that they became captive in a state of unconsciousness, and their souls were whisked away to a strange and foreign dimension.

When they awoke in this new place, they found that they were dressed in odd, yet elaborately designed clothing. As they took in what was happening, they regained a power that had been lost in a time and life that came before eithers earliest memories. They came to the realization, that if they were to have any chance at returning home, they would need to combine their powers. Though they didn't know it, the void around them was Majigen, a place created by Jedah the Dark Messiah where he could absorb souls in his quest to bring peace to Makai by uniting all of its souls into one. Cautiously, the girls walked into the dark, evil spirit filled world before them... and it happily engulfed the them.

Just as had been done in their post, they fought through the Darkstalkers, and eventually came upon Jedah. A trying fight ensued, but the girls came out victorious. However, they were still lost in the dark void of Majigen, and could see no way home. Just as they began to panic, an image appeared before them... one of a warmly smiling old woman. Hsien-Ko recognized the old woman from a dream she'd had, and wanted to know who she was. But the old woman merely smiled, and lit a path for the two souls to follow, assuring them that everything would be alright.

The next thing they knew, the girls awakened from their nightmare. They were back from the terrible realm they'd dreamt of, and wasted no time as they quickly ran home... a place they were happy to see once again. They knew their mother would be so happy to see them safe, just as their real mother was.

Jedah

1997

Capcom

-Story-

While his true place and date of birth aren't known, Jedah was resurrected in the desolate outer regions of Makai, the Devil World. His past visions of what's to become of the world around him is something he's dwelled heavily upon. Under the reign of Berial, the head of the Aenslaed family and true ruler of Makai, Jedah has seen nothing but decay in the future of Makai. He has seen it as sitting on the cusp of oblivion, and in his mind, he believes the only one that can save it, is him.

To save every being in Makai, Jedah believed every last soul must be united into a single soul. To Jedah, this would bring peace to all, as there would be no conflict. But to do this, he needed something... a container. One that would be strong enough to hold all the souls, and that would enable him to not make the same mistake he'd felt Berial did in the past. For this, Jedah concocted a plan where he would gather up the most valuable souls, and unite them with himself in hopes of making a container large enough to safely hold all the other souls.

Jedah came into the traveling dark void called Majigen, with benevolent intentions. This void was his creation, and a container of its own. Here, he battled the other Darkstalkers that had come to the void. He left behind no one, as he took their souls into himself to strengthen his abilities for what was yet to come. Finally, with all defeated, Jedah's plan for the Devil World was set to be carried out. He was ready to go back and recreate life itself with a single life form, just as it supposedly had been done before. But before this could be done, he must first destroy another world. If the Devil World was to exist as the primary world, he felt that the human world had to be destroyed. For there, the ruler of the human world slept lightly, and he knew that if his plan was to come to fruition, he had to get rid of the human world before she fully awakened.

Bishamon

1994

Capcom

-Story-

Born in 1673 in Japan, Bishamon was a noble man who had been charged with the duty of defending his land, and the people that called it home. However, his means of doing this proved detrimental to him. Bishamon found a forbidden suit of armor called Hannya, the Kacchu of Hatred. With it, he also found a cursed sword named Kien, the Blood-Sucking Youtou (Demon Blade). The moment he took these items and wielded them, his days of rest ended. Though his heart is still noble, the armor he wears and the sword he carries demand blood and sacrifices. When they do, he can't control his own body. Despite this, the rage of the armor and sword are turned on darkness, and not the innocents.

At some point, Bishamon thought that to be rid of his curse, he had to destroy all the Darkstalkers. So with this in mind, he turned to seeking out and defeating every last one of them. He cut a bloody path right up to Pyron's feet, and unleashed the fury of his cursed armor and weapon upon the powerful energy-based alien. With Pyron's defeat, Hannya and Kein became appeased. Despite this, his curse did not end, and he learned that to ever be allowed to rest, he must fight evil wherever it is. It was then that he set out on a journey to find and fight all darkness. However, Hannya and Kein would have plans of their own.

In his journeys, Bishamon had become separated from Hannya and Kein. Though the armor and sword had lost their master, their lust for blood did not lessen. In fact, it grew so much that two years after they were separated from Bishamon, the hatred and thirst for blood manifested itself in a human form, and the armor became active without him. But before anything could happen, the vengeful ghost that now possessed the armor and sword was pulled into Majigen, which was a void created by Jedah the Dark Messiah to trap and collect souls in a perverted effort to “save” Makai.

Hannya and Kein set out, battling the Darkstalkers in this new dimension. What they left behind was just as brutal as before, and eventually they came to face Jedah. The possessed armor and sword bested the self-proclaimed Makai savior, and screamed it's desire to feed on the souls of all who called the Makai home. But just as it seemed Hannya and Kein were free to do exactly that, their master returned.

Bishamon, using powerful magic, undid the body that Hannya and Kein had gained, and resealed the cursed armor and weapon. For him, the evils would stay silent for what he hoped was the rest of his days. But despite his victory, Bishamon's mood was somber. He knew that as long as the darkness existed in human souls, Makai would exist in some form, and likely be far more dreadful than Hannya and Kein. As such, was his fight truly over?

WOW.

Ok... I don't even know where to begin. First of all, I must thank you for honoring us with the amount of time that it must have taken you to write these bios. Unfortunately... hm. Where to begin.

...

Wow. Ok. I don't know how to say this. I don't know what you think, watkinzez, Linearity, the old veterans, but these bios are not entirely... coherent with the others. the Coop, It hurts (irl) to say this.

It's like I've asked you to bake me a cake, and you spend several full days in the middle of finals week baking me the brownest, best and biggest brownies most people will ever taste, upon which I say I have near-lethal allergies to cocoa. :(

The bios "violate" a number of guidelines, and will need some... editing. I don't know if you want me to tell you exactly what's wrong so you can do it yourself or if you'd prefer me to edit them. There's no hurry, mind you, but it'll need to be done - and keep them as is until I've clarified what I mean. It hurts so much not to be able to just cheer and hurrah at these very well-written and ambitious bios of yours. The reason I have such difficulties to explain things is the fact that they are so... ambitious, and I don't want to seem ungrateful. The "violations" are the result of misunderstandings that I wish we could have avoided - but there's only so much I can do when you post all seven bios in 48 hours.

If you had posted one at a time, I could have said "do it like this instead" but as it is now, it would break my heart to do it (yeah, I'm a pussy). Someone needs to either give me intestinal-purpose duct tape, explain, or tell me everything's fine.

We no doubt can tell you're an avid Darkstalkers gamer, Coop, so it's natural you would provide us with bundles of info on it. Some of Dafydd's concerns focus on paring down what you have.

3. The purpose of the bio pages is merely to introduce characters to people to whom they are largely unknown, not to provide all the information there is about them.

Your stories are engaging, like reading a novel. I love that cliffhanger question at the end of Jon Talbain's, as well as "But you can't keep an undead rocker down" in Lord Raptor's. Now the idea is to keep all bios succinct. Tighten up the word count so readers won't be all like "tl;dr" and pass up these unique characters.

4. Also, try to write bios so that they don't contain "spoilers", i.e. revealing things that are supposed to be found out during gameplay. An extreme spoiler would be revealing the main character's death at the end of the game, or the likes.

If there was a Darkstalkers thread in GenDisc and some posters have just started playing the first in the series, it might break their hearts to hear that Lilith fuses with Morrigan or that Hsien-Ko and her sister awaken from a nightmare. Jon Talbain's recurring lycanthropy after beating Pyron reminds me of "bad" endings for other arcade fighters. They leave me uncaring about the character's efforts and encounters along the way. I'm not even a Samurai Shodown fan and I was disappointed to learn what happens to Ukyo at the ends of some of those games, which I left out of his bio.

Looking at the number of titles in this series, I'd guess the storyline is ongoing, with no two endings alike for at least one lead protagonist (Morrigan?). The situation at the start of each major game, the character's mindset, the steps needed to reach his / her goals, I'd count as legit, personally. Jedah's story is the only one I feel has an open end to it, whereby it's clear what he must do, but doesn't reveal whether he becomes the ultimate savior, or is bested by some upstart.

6. Bios need not mention or describe every single game a character has appeared or starred in, unless that game has one or several remixes here on OCR. All such games are to be listed at the end of the bio, and each game name is to be a link that takes whoever clicks it directly to that game's OCR page.

Good job linking to specific Wikipedia articles on all the characters. Do that for IGN, Gamefaqs, and Mobygames highlights too, like:

IGN - Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors Review

Gamefaqs - Darkstalkers

Mobygames - Darkstalkers series

and if you want, Darkstalkers game manuals

As for listing the characters' games, the more notable titles would suffice, like the first, the very latest, and two or three popular intermediates. Listing every Mario game (or appearance) borders on insane, which is why it was avoided.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks, Polo. Coop, I too enjoyed your novellish and engaging style. It's all very well written, but it stands out a little too much from the general style of the other bios.

Funny characters can be described in a humorous style, characters from a dark and horrorful world should be described in their respective way, but the bios need to maintain some level of objectiveness and a rather encyclopediatic style of language. I might need to clarify this in the first post as well. psychotic ninja's first submission, a bio on Hiryu, comes to mind... I'm in no way suggesting that your bios are not well written, Coop, but the opinions I had about his bio are of some relevance here as well.

Try to leave out less important stuff like "It moved so fast, that everytime you swung the Cipher, it appeared as a crescent moon" and "...and it is said that no one is more skilled with a cipher. He fights like a fierce God, displaying the skills of an A-Rank Strider clearly, while remaining calm and collected." Not only is it overkill info that might be better off on a dedicated fansite for this character, but it also feels like something that was written to impress a 12-year old.

The reaction the project aims to give the readers is something like "oh, so THAT's how it is..." rather than "Dude, awesome!" and to be an appetizer that includes links to the main dish (and perhaps not the dessert) rather than a full dinner. :) The links at the bottom are there not only for verification purposes, but also so that people who are really interested in finding out more about the character can do so without having to do the tedious work of finding a good fansite.

Again, your bios are well written, and do not contain stuff that "feels like something that was written to impress a 12-year old" - but the overkill info is probably true.

Please keep your bios as is for now, and we should be able to include them (in their current form) in the project, accessible as "long versions" with spoiler warnings attached. vBulletin should provide us with the tools needed for such a thing.

Something else I might need to point out more clearly is that future readers of these bios might be interested in learning something about a character's attacks. Polo did a pretty good job in Sagat's bio, even though it assumes that the reader already knows who Ryu is (no problem though, we can always link the reader away to Ryu's bio, which, btw, should cover both the shoryuken and the hadouken, since they're what makes him so special).

On the contrary, watkinzez, I found your bio on Penelo to be suffering from issues opposite of Coop's bios'. It's short (but not too short), which is natural with a character no one really knows much about, but it's a little unengaging, the sentences are a little too short and near-scientific in nature. You've written more than 20 bios so far, and I've read them all - I know you can do better. No hurries.

Wow. I do nothing but complain, do I? :)

Bummer. All that for nothing :(

Well, if spoilers are a no-no, then the only games that can be discussed are the first games each character debuted in. It's not possible to link what a character like Hsein-Ko did in Night Warriors, to what she went through in Vampire Savior without giving away the ending in NW. But the problem that arrises then, is which version do you discuss? Her as a Chinese ghost, or her as a teenager trapped in Majigen via a nightmare? You can't talk about both. Bishamon runs into a similar issue, seeing as his armor was on it's own in VS. The other five seem more straight forward, though a bit tricky to discuss in spots without giving away what happens in the next game with characters like Jon Talbain and Morrigan.

Also, I didn't include any instruction manuals, because I used the English versions of the games. Having no luck finding scans or PDFs of them, linking to Vampire Hunter's Japanese manual didn't make much sense when I was using Night Warriors' English manual.

With that said, I trimmed the bio of one of them to see what's what so I don't have to redo all of them a third time...

Jon Talbain

1994

Capcom

-Story-

Born in England in 1940, Jon Talbain spent many years searching for a way to be rid of his lycanthropic curse. Though the beast within him is always there, he found a way to both sharpen and strengthen his mind and body through martial arts. This, coupled with the savagery of his werewolf form, make him a force to be reckoned with.

In his fights, Jon relies not just on the moves of his martial arts training, but also on his teeth and claws. His fighting style at times combines nunchukkas and flying kicks, with vicious bites and flesh rending slashes. These come together in hopes of bringing him closer to what was promised to him by an mysterious woman... that his curse would end the day he exceeded all his limits.

^ Now that's a powerful intro. I can read JT's pain, resilience, fighting versatility, and hope-filled spirit in just a few lines. I wish to learn more.

And way to shed some light on spoiler practicality, Coop. I'm sorry if I misled you at first. I realized in Ukyo's bio, I'm "spoiling" the fact that he doesn't find the perfect flower for his love, and in Sagat's bio, I'm revealing that Ryu wins the world's strongest title from him, which, as you say, is giving away the ending to the first game. And considering that there's subsequent and more popular titles in both series, there's no point in limiting the scope to the first one.

So let me try again... In general, if there's a story plateau, i.e. a character's ultimate goal that transcends the series (like if Jon Talbain will forever search for a cure to his curse, or if it's Lilith and Morrigan's fate to fuse back together no matter what), then that's cool. You can write that in. Just don't reveal whether he / she actually attains that goal or fails at the very very end. That part you can leave open. Everything else - crucial turning points, new objectives - succinctify objectively and engagingly, like you did above.

Btw, if JT's "sidequest" of overcoming / understanding his shadow directly affects his character for the future, I think you can put it back in the bio. (Though we may need Dafydd's opinion on it...)

Sorry for the wait. Now:

Like I said, the new version of the bio is much closer to what we want, Coop. What I'd like to see more of now is things like... well, you write "in his fights"... who does he fight, and why? Does he think fighting is the answer to his troubles? How does he know WHO to fight? The darkstalkers series obviously has a much deeper storyline than the street fighter series, where everyone was just fighting to become the grand champion, for one reason or another.

You could also mention something, briefly, about the darkstalkers series and something about his place in the grander scheme of things. Don't rewrite any of the other bios until I've ok:ed this one. Once I have, I'm sure you'll have a good idea about how to write the kind of bios we're looking for. I'm sorry I have to point and micromanage things like this, and I hope you don't feel like we're downplaying you or anything. :| I really appreciate your efforts.

but it stands out a little too much from the general style of the other bios.

If we get the sort of help we're looking for, there's going to be hella lot of different styles. That's what editing is for. Coop did a great job and there's nothing wasteful about his work.

Hey guys, it's great to see how well everything is progressing here. The last two or three pages especially, wow.

I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't given up. The Project Justice/Rival Schools characters I took on are now even more relevant since I've got Rival Schools now. I'm gonna play through a good chunk of it before I finish up. I still got'em dibbed! :)
