OCR TF2: New Server forthcoming - new server IPs and other stuff

Still banned this morning for the record.

ID: STEAM_0:1:2183945 was banned for 30 minutes

I was actually on when this ban happened, didn't think much of it at the time but I suspect we may have someone exploiting a bug in sourcemod. I'll be updating it later.

I've removed all 30 minute bans (They don't seem to be auto-clearing?!), but I'll need to sort out the 10080s later.

Brushfire has been happy to point out several times that even though there may be one team made up with 50% of the people wearing an OCR tag, OCR is just "a community of people that play together" so its not stacking. If you forget for a minute that that is a ridiculous statement, there are way more nQa members that fit this description then not.

Just wanna jump in her and point out the distiction: unless I'm mistaken, nQa is a gaming-clan. You guys play a lot of competitive TF2 and other stuff. That's like, your whole deal, right?

OCR isn't a clan. It's a video game music and remixes community. The OCR server was started so that people who hang around on the forums and on IRC can play TF2 together. We don't have matches with clans or anything like that. Attempts to organize tournaments and competitions have not met with resounding success. People just throw [OCR] on their names to say "hey I'm from OCR and I like remixes" or "I like playing here."

So no, it's not really stacking, because people who have [OCR] on their name have such a wide range of skill level and don't particularly play that well with other [OCR] folks, whereas people with nQa on their name are generally quite good and play very well with other nQa players.

Last night was nice; about 5-6 nQa guys on the server with a fairly even split. Some good matches too. I could have done without the constant mocking of the server rules over voicechat (it came across as little rude), but it was mostly harmless so I didn't bother mentioning it.

Also: hackpipes.

All I'm trying to say is there are plenty of people with the nQa tag that fit this description as well. We have some good people and some not so good people.

Yeah last night we were completely split. I wouldn't say it was mocking though as people were repeatedly sticky camping the doors. Not to mention batting the sandman through the gates which I would consider an exploit (and don't say it isn't because Valve hasn't fixed it yet).

Thanks Fireslash. I jumped on the server and had no problem connecting now. Didn't mean to come off as sounding a little rude or annoyed this morning either. I mean I was annoyed, but mostly because I'm not a morning person.

On a hopefully less absurd note.

Has anyone else been seeing really weird votes lately?

The other day I saw a vote in chat pass at 10%, with 1 vote I think.

There was no vote though.

Just a random "the vote passed"

And then yesterday someone got kicked by a random vote.

I asked why the guy was kicked, and nobody knew because there was no actual vote.

Reading back, maybe its the same tomfoolery that's got Vivi banned

Yar I believe that mockery you're referring to was me an not them. As I was making some kind of voice and joking about teamstacking and hacks for a good 10 minutes O:

There was some discussion about that in the IRC channel a few hours ago. I'm trying to look into it, but Fireslash said it might be an exploit that was patched in the newer sourcemod release.

The 10080s are one week bans I give to people who have 0 regard for server rules / admin requests / general decency. Porn sprays, constant racism, etc.

ZUZ, as much as I hate to say it, is just as bad as any other clan we've had issues with. I've come down on them harder than the other admins, and I've really felt the backlash from a few of them. They mock me for my scrambles when I do them and my non-scrambles when I don't. Ubel and I had our differences when he first started on the server. I had to kick Vahn recently after an inappropriate comment when he specced to the other team after a scramble and I told him not to. They've even gone as far as letting the other team steamroll them for one round just to claim "Look, they beat us! Teams are even!"

I should see more ZUZ mentioned in these teamstacking claims, because they are guilty, too.

you scramble way too freaking much so much so that id say you shouldnt even be an admin

and if you look at the initial thing when everyone joins a team they almost always pick autojoin

In terms of this team stacking, I just wanted to say that just cause we have OCR in our name doesn't mean crap. I've seen at least 10 people using OCR that don't even come to this forum, participate in any way. They just put it there. nQa is a clan. You guys have to have kind of quality control, or you'd be a horrible clan.

And for OCR stacking, I have yet to see a time where 3 or more OCR members are on, and on the same team with no OCR members on the other team. I see nQa do this all the time. And also you guys medic chain and pocket medic each other out the ass, and have seen you guys not heal just to pocket medic.

Point is, if you guys are on, spread out some. If I join and see 3 of you guys on a team, I'm way less inclined to want to play. Especially if I join the other team and we are getting dominated all to fuck no matter what we do. We can sit and argue this all day though if you want to, but seriously, just spread out some, split up and join the other team.

Let me clear some things up, as this discussion has derailed.

We're NOT going to do a blanket ban on nQa or any other clan. I know powerlord brought this up, but it won't happen.

What will happen is the admins will be operating under a much lower tolerance for team stacking and other violations, as several people have been abusing the rules. Don't be surprised if you get banned for avoiding scrambles, or ignoring a request to switch teams due to stacking.

This isn't hard.

- If teams are scrambled, and you switch back, you'll be banned.

- If you are on the losing team, and switch over to the winning team, you'll be banned.

- If you are on the same team as all of your clan mates, are rolling the server, and refuse to switch, you will be banned.

- If an admin asks you to switch teams for stacking reasons, and you don't comply, you will be banned.

- If you have to be reminded regularly about team stacking or other server rules, sooner or later you will be banned.

Note that the duration of this ban is up to the admin.

I really don't want to have to start keeping a log of who I warn about what rule when. We don't have that many of them and you all play regularly, there's no excuse for this shit :|

Respected.

If I don't comply over voicechat it's because ive turned voice off due to micspam :D

please feel free to type it out

You guys need to understand that there are almost 80 active members of nQa. Scythe-Messiah and myself have been playing on your server the longest, and I like to think the two of us have a pretty good understanding of your rules, even if we find the enforcement of them to be uneven at best. When one or more of us joins the server, we're likely to be followed by other members that happen to be online that want to play with us. This is inevitably going to lead to people joining that have never been on the server before, never heard the rules before, etc.

It's not hard to read the rules that pop up before a game starts. Most players are happy to let another player know if they have overstepped a rule. Most of the rules on this server are common sense.

The amount of clan members you have is not relevant. If you are a serious clan with a reputation following you, it is the responsibility of each clan member to uphold that reputation, and the responsibility of those in charge to choose an appropriate action for those who tarnish it. If you cannot or choose not to take action, you must deal with the consequences.

Furthermore, call it uneven if you want. I would call it forgiving, lenient, tolerant, or merciful. Otherwise, this discussion would have happened a lot earlier or yo might have been banned without it even being discussed.

Yes some of us play on a competitive team, but that number is a small fraction of our overall membership.

All I know is that when the nQa guys show up, the game steps up. If there are times when that is not the case, they are a minority.

As far as switching to spec after a team scramble and then switching back to the old team, I have a news flash for you: every time I've witnessed a scramble I've seen 2-3 people pulling this move. Sometimes its an nQa member, but for every one of those, there is another non-nQa person doing it.

Honestly, I don't believe you. One, because I watch the teams religiously. Two, because I know it does not happen every time. Three, because it is easy to forget the times when it does not happen.

Brushfire has been happy to point out several times that even though there may be one team made up with 50% of the people wearing an OCR tag, OCR is just "a community of people that play together" so its not stacking. OCR isn't a clan. It's just a tag. If you are as familiar with this group as you claim, you would know that without having to ask.

The point I'm trying to make is this: There is no need to lump us all together because we are part of a community. If you see one person repeatedly flaunting your rules, then by all means take action against that person. I think you'll find if you treat us with the same respect you are asking us to show that we will be happy to contribute to your community in a positive way.

Okay, we should be taking actions against individuals, and I think the mods are doing that now. But I hope you can understand why nQa as a group is under the gun here. And I do not feel that it is unfair to treat you as a group, which you are. If you keep your own clan-mates in line, this would not be an issue in the first place. You don't shit on someones porch and then demand respect from them. Contribute positively and I think you will find we are more than happy to forgive you for being dicks.

Again, the fact that you are here being reasonable (and showing it in game as well) does make a difference.
