I don't see a reason why anyone would need to apologize for being good. They are better at someone else, that is all there is too it. I see apologizing as a sort of an insult actually. It shows that you acknowledge that you are better than someone. Even if your intentions were good, the end result is still kind of in the same line as gloating.

Fair enough. I do use it as a way to gloat occasionally, but this is when I say that then don't switch characters. I dunno, I just like to keep things interesting where it'll be close matches all around so I tend to play to the level of my opponent without realizing it. Both for better and for worse.

I just hate it when my friend is proud of beating people with Sheik, epecially when I use Ness or someone no where near her tier. I sure feel proud whenever I beat his Sheik with Ness though :P

Speaking of tiers, have they changed much recently? I haven't kept up with them cause I don't care too much and don't "believe" in them. I understand they are good indicators of what characters are better, but like what's been said: skill is skill.

This is the most recent one:

Top Tier:
Fox
Falco

High Tier:
Sheik
Marth
Peach

Middle Tier:
Captain Falcon
Ice Climbers
Samus
Doctor Mario
Jigglypuff
Mario
Ganondorf

Low Tier:
Link
Luigi
Donkey Kong
Roy
Young Link
Pikachu

Bottom Tier:
Yoshi
Zelda
Mr. Game and Watch
Ness
Bowser
Kirby
Pichu
Mewtwo

Yeah, I don't see the point in apologizing for being better than someone else. I beat people badly, and people have beat me badly. It's just like any other competition: some people are better than others. It's nothing to apologize for.

The current tiers have not changed in forever. They're outdated. They only remain unchanged because no one want to officially claim, who has gotten better. Because for every person that gets raised, another or more get dropped, and then disputes flame up. For example, I think Link currently places mid-mid-tier in competitive play, but that would cause a great deal of outrage for at least Mario and Ganondorf. So they leave it.
Edit: I like the way the above poster put it. ^ "The most recent one." That's pretty much it. Because it's officially still this since the last census.

Honestly, to me the tiers seem broken. Yes, Fox has certain advantages over Kirby, but a list where the top two tiers combined have less characters than the bottom tier seems wrong.

Simply put, the top characters are those who beat the bigger loudmouths on smash forums.

Thank God you got rid of that bloody milk bottle Link! I can remember so many times playing as Young Link where I would instinctively taunt after killing someone, only to subsequently realise the hell I had unleashed and the position I was now in. SKULL SKULL SKULL...damn...

Cool update, It makes me very happy and seems like a very logical and fun addition.

... but seriously, let's be honest...

Fox looks like he's taking the most painful, firey crap of his life. LOOK I TELL YOU.

Hey, just got internets back (my computer's boot sector got a physical corruption on it, so I'm off that for a while; oh, the "joys" of the Opera browser), so I thought I'd respond to the 'apologetic player' thing while I have a chance.

So, yeah. When I was saying that the Fox guy seemed 'apologetic' sometimes, it wasn't that he seemed like that because he was good; you're right, it's dumb to feel sorry because you are skilled at something. He seems that way sometimes because he plays Fox the way most people play him: lots of laser-spamming, shine edgeguards, and he pretty much only attacks with either his up throw, his up smash, or his up aerial. The majority of the people who play at school find that style of play... well, we don't like it, to say the least. (Mind you, we deal with it, because who are we to say that it's wrong; we just don't like it for philosophical reasons), and he seems like he sometimes feels bad because most of the people he fights consider his practices unsportsmanlike (in particular, edge-hogging, again for philosophical reasons).

And I don't necessarily see why it's 'gloating' to feel bad when your over-abundance of skill markedly makes other people have less fun. Like I said, we all deal with our frustrations and just grin and bear it, but it also shows that other, more skilled players have a vested interest in OUR enjoyment of the game, as well.

i had one seriously weird dream last night
ok so i was in my room playing brawl and i was playing as kirby and i had peach and dk with me and we were jamming through dk's forest so we could get back to kirbys warpstar

when we finally got to it k.rool was there and dk was like ah hell nah i got this kirby you get the fuck out of here *with motions of course because from we gathered in the trailers, noone actually talks* and dk charged at k.rool and kirby and peach dashed for the warpstar and flew the fuck out of there
so kirby and peach were flying back to the halberd because kirby had to fly back there and while flying there peach noticed mario running towards bowsers keep so she pointed down and kirby flew low to the ground and peach jumped off and used her umbrella to fly to the ground so then peach reunited with mario and kirby flew off by himself because he is a bad ass and doesnt need anyone to assist him

then it cut to metaknight watching from a tree somewhere as kirby flew back to the halberd and metaknight flew there too and whoa suddenly im playing as metaknight
so im on the halberd all my peeps are attacking me so i figured that the black mage looking dude who we saw in the beginning trailer really took over the halberd and so im metaknight trying to get it back
i bust through the level and suddenly it goes to the map of the halberd that you see in kirby super star except its completely redone in 3d and it showed an explosion on the right wing

then it goes back to kirby and flies onto the right wing and i play as him busting through the level and kicking some ass and i go into the main cockpit area then it goes to the map and shows the right wing blow up

then it goes to a cutscene where metaknight and kirby meet up and kirby is like wtf and metaknight just glares and kirby whips out his sword and then metaknight does because even though they have similar goals they are still rivals you know so then it goes to a battle and im controlling kirby which is not bad since i figured you know i must have been playing through his arc of the story anyways

so the fights over and metaknights on the floor owned and kirby moves forward to the room where the blackmage is and they fight and when the fights over it goes back to the 3d map with the whole halberd blowin up and going down and then it goes back to kirby and i apparently have to get the fuck out of there so im running and theres this timer and im like shit i gotta gtfo but i dont make it in time but wait metaknight all of a sudden flies and grabs me and we fly off of the halberd and it lands in the ocean completely owned and metaknight drops off kirby and then like disappears

then i woke up and when i did i wondered why i dreamed of that instead of some hot lovin

seriously though it was pretty odd yet cool but even though it was pretty epic i know the game won't be nearly as cool with each person going against their major enemy in an awesome story style like that

tl;dr

I really enjoyed the Saffron City stage...it'd be nice if some of those classics return.

Failing Saffron City's actual return (which I hope it returns as well), you can probably make a similar setup using the stage editor. Dunno if you could make the moving platforms and you couldn't remake the pokemon door, but you could make the bare skeleton of the stage work, at least... and give it Pokemon music or something.

But yeah, in a lot of ways Brawl looks like a hybrid of Melee and Classic Smash in how it does things with a huge, fresh dose of new stuff thrown in too. I think that's what makes me so excited for it; it's a great mix of old and new. ....Which is really the essence of the series to begin with.

Amen.

And it seems this thread's post count has reached yet another milestone value. Assuming each post has, on average, a power level of 1, and that the total power level of the thread is the sum of the power levels of each of its posts, we can therefore assume that the thread's post count p is approximately equal to its power level p'. So without further ado, I'll cut straight to the ceremonies:

Vegeta!

What does the Brawl thread say about its power level?

I sure hope they go overboard and make each "account" have not just 3 custom taunt phrases, but 3 custom taunt phrases per character. Then you could come up with such in-context taunts as:
"I am under a box!"
"Oh. A fairy."
"I'm curling myself in some sort of new stretch."
"I give a shout on the spot."

Although I hate to beat and rape a long-dead horse, I feel obligated to point out....

"There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users."

"Be kind to beginners! If all you do in brawls is beat up people who don’t know left from right, they’ll never understand the rules of the game, right?
So until now, I’ve always made sure to include handicaps in each game in the series.
But, I began to think that there isn’t much thrill in just making yourself weaker, so I changed the system."

Judging by Sakurai's use of these key words in the second example, it's safe to assume that they also apply to the first...right...? Right? Still have handicaps, still have Ness..... Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out. (also I'm putting my money on ness getting a whole new moveset based on the moves he himself used in mother2, as suggested by others......)

I had a thought recently, not sure if it's already been brought up, but imagine if the usual process of changing the colours, actually changed the characters and their movesets themselves. I know this'll never happen, but imagine if Link's alternate costumes were like WindWaker Link, OOT Link, Young Link, Dark Link etc. each with different movesets. It would save character slots and would be awesome, though it won't happen. You'd have Mario, SMB 3 Mario, Shadow Mario from Sunshine. I guess it would only work for some characters though... ah well just a pointless rant to make up for the boredom of this update.

Maybe if they had more creative costume changes (not necessarily with unique movesets, just more than a simple colour change) then THAT would be a good update.

I'm not sure how this handicap system is any different from the old system. Can someone remind me how it used to work and what makes this so different?

For example, I know that he said that making yourself waeker isn't thrilling, but isn't that exactly what is still happening? I'm confused...

EDIT: Oh wait, now I get it. The previous system made you send your opponent less distance, but now, you yourself get sent farther because your damage is higher. Is that right? Sorry for the idiocy, everyone.

BardicKnowledge
11-14-2007, 03:05 PM
^That's right -- your attacks just didn't have the oomph before, and you got sent flying farther at lower percentages. Which made the handicap biased (IMO) against lighter-weight characters, since Ganondorf and the like took greater handicaps to be affected as much as say, Pikachu/Peach.

I know it's probably been pointed out before, but I'm glad they seem to be making the "heavy" fighters a lot more viable now. I've heard good things about Bowser in Brawl from the demo, so that'll be interesting to see.

I also noticed that we've been given three new "heavy" fighters, or at least it looks that way. Ike I hear is very slow and strong, so I guess he counts as a heavy (plus he also has that "can't be stunned during some attacks" thing). King Dedede, who looks like he has a multi-jump ability like Kirby, but is also a heavy... Sounds kinda dangerous, a heavy that can recover? Then it looks like Pokemon Trainer's Charizard is a "heavy" character, or he could just be big and average, but I'm gonna lean towards heavy. It also looks like he'll be able to mulit-jump, or at the very least we know he can glide...

At any rate, glad to see that the game is trying to make the other characters able to compete better with the "fast" characters.

This probably has the worst instrument quality of the ones we've heard so far but I think it might be one of the better songs we've heard so far. Definitely fits Kirby, at least, and I think it would work well for Smash. This REALLY reminds me of the music from the N64 Smash, which is both a good and bad thing.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the musical update either. The song itself sounds okay, but the instrumentation is just lousy. I think if they improved the sound of the instruments, it'd probably be much better overall.

As for the moveset update, I'm going with "meh." Nothing really all that exciting there. None of Meta Knight's moves on paper have that "Oh, Snap!" reaction, though the Cape may prove to be great for throwing people off. But the WOW factor certainly isn't there. Oh well, they can't all be winners.

Unless the costumes are separate from the colors. As in, you can change regular Mario to look like Dr. Mario, but you'd still be able to choose pink, black, green, etc.

Still, costumes do sound unlikely since Daisy would be a perfect Peach costume.

Amen to that. Really, like Camera mode, this update is great for certain people, and neutral to others. It's definitely not something that would hurt the game if included, and I'm sure those that are planning on using it will use it well (I'm one of the few people I know of who actively uses Camera mode in Melee, and I get some damn good SS's, too). What I think is great is that it will allow novice players who want to observe specific character's techniques to easily do so by letting them observe a variety of skilled (hopefully) players in real-time, in high quality. Lord knows I got better after observing people play Link / Doc.

"This mode is a service where Nintendo uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to send the data for games played between other people to every Smash household."

It sounds like the data is recorded for your match, sent to Nintendo, and then distributed from their servers to your wii. So the matches probably won't be viewed in real time.

I wouldn't agree that Brawl is a hardcore game for hardcore people.

Super Smash Brothers was always meant to cater to both the casual and to the hardcore. If you throw a bunch of casual Melee players together, I'd wager they'd have just as much fun with the game as a group of the hardcore playing together. Brawl will almost assuredly be the same way, and the Spectator Mode update is some evidence to that. Smash is meant to be a game for everyone: Simple to pick up, but very difficult to truly master.

That said, I like this Spectator Mode thing. I wouldn't mind finding a good fight or two with my Wii and watchin' how it plays out. That could be good entertainment if I can't find anything on TV.

But seriously if you cold chose who you're going to watch you could set up an online tournament so easy. You have a tournament of 32 players, playing 4 at a time, top two procede. You could have the entire tournament viewing all of the matches. And after a while you'd see some kick ass battles near the finals. That would be fucking entertaining.

i get what you mean, but just having options isn't going to ruin anything. right now from what i understand, you go into the spectator mode and it automatically sets you up with a match to watch. but it wouldn't ruin it for anyone to just have it so that you go into spectator mode, and then you can choose to either have a match set up automatically, or find one that you want to watch. this goes for ALL the features they're throwing in that could be a lot better - WOULD be a lot better, if they didn't go out of their way to make it so you have no options at all.

think about all the options you have for setting up a match in melee. anyone who's never even played before can just go to melee, select a character and hit start and be playing with all the default options. but, for people who want to change the options, you have the CHOICE to go to options and change stuff to your liking. does this ruin it for people who just want to start up a match without any care for what options are set? nope, because they don't have to bother with the options if they don't want to.

i can definitely see how this feature is useful for people who are just starting the game. they wouldn't care about finding certain people to watch; just watching any people who at least know the basics of the game can give them an idea of how the game is played. but other than that, it's just what atma said. who's gonna sit around and watch completely anonymous and random matches? sure this feature's great for beginners, but uh...that's it. it wouldn't cost them anything to just flat-out make this feature a whole lot better.

edit, to make a long story short. sure nintendo is getting it right at being welcoming to brand new players, like that dude's girlfriend for example. but it seems like for the most part, they're neglecting the other people, when they could easily make things good for both.

im saying that this ONCE AGAIN is something that has the potential to be an excellent feature but they make it useless
all theyd need to do is add a RANKING SYSTEM (HOW THE HECK DO THEY NOT HAVE ONE) and you could select to watch matches among higher ranked players if you chose or if youre a beginner you can choose to watch lower ranked matches
then if they REALLY wanted they could still keep them anonymous but at least youre picking what you wanna watch

this also presents a major flaw with their wifi play
after two months of xbox live i really appreciate ranked matches
when i go to unranked ones i get the balls beaten out of me every time, but when i play ranked im playing people like me
the lack of ranked matches is going to discourage all new players from playing online as theyll more often than not get the living garbage beaten out of them

aside from friend code (gay) matches the entire wifi play is a complete joke

so yeah i threw the whole live thing in there again but this isnt like its an exclusive live thing it is an ESSENTIAL aspect to any kind of online game

Do you have any idea how difficult it would be to have a "watch matches played by Joe Blow" option? Let's say Joe Blow's a hardcore player, and plays an average of 10 online matches a day. Now, suppose 20% of these matches are recorded and sent to Nintendo. So, every day, the "search for matches played by Joe Blow" option would have 2 new matches for you to watch. Now, multiply Joe Blow by tens of thousands of Smash players - that replay data would quickly build up into an absolutely MASSIVE amount. Now let's say Nintendo only keeps the replays for, say, one week, or maybe one day. So on any given day, you'd have maybe 5 or 10 Joe Blow matches to watch, several of which you've probably already watched. However you tweak the numbers around, you'll always have either have too much stress on Nintendo's (for their FREE SERVICE), or a minuscule amount of replays to watch. I'll shut up if anyone can show me a widely played game out that has this same feature and does it well.

If you want to watch matches by Joe Blow, TELL HIM TO SEND YOU HIS REPLAYS!

If you want to watch only CPU players fight each other, YOU ARE VERY EASILY AMUSED!

The broadcast is like a TV station. ONE TV station. The Brawl channel. Brawl Broadcasting Corperation, if you will. Sure, it might be nice to have more than one channel, but really, do we need more than one? Just because it's a great game doesn't mean it needs everything you want.
so it should be fun to have people in different environments watch and cheer the same match.
Again, Sakurai's chosen more of a "TV" philosophy here, rather than a "YouTube" one.
Plus, betting would be impossible if it wasn't "broadcast" style. I'm just wondering if this betting option will nudge people towards (or away from) gambling addictions?? I'm sure Jack Thompson can't wait to hear about it......

I will admit, their method of random "data collection" looks unbelievably lame.
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various09/various09_071024e.jpg
Why is there no "submit" button here?? Why would random matches be more entertaining (or more fun to bet on) than ones people specifically submit to Nintendo??? Bah, if they decide to make the broadcast show replays that people sumbit, it'll probably delay the game another two months.

...Wii games can get patches, right? =D

all theyd need to do is add a RANKING SYSTEM (HOW THE HECK DO THEY NOT HAVE ONE)
That's a good question. I'm really hoping they have a "choose your skill level" thing - without it, online play would be pretty awful. Really, the only reason I'd want to play with people I don't know is when the people I DO know are a different skill level than me. If half of my online opponents are either way better or worse than I am (which is bound to happen if there's no skill levels or ranking), then, well... my time might be better spent betting on anonymous Brawl players or playing with stickers.

actually the problem lies in friend codes
because they use numeric codes and not usernames you cant display their unique identity over their head

otherwise if you could put any old name over your head everyone could end up with the same name or they could be explicit (OH NO!)

I honestly don't care a whole lot about the online bit being set up the way it is, gamers that really want to get into it will network anyway, or try really hard to. What I'm hoping for is a list that's big enough to handle that, it seems a lot of games in the psat have insignificantly sized lists.

Then again I don't really mind anonymous non rated battles either, sure I might run into people that'll cream me, or be too easy, but if I play against the former often enough my skill will eventually increase.

Yeah, ok so I'm a go with the flow sort, really it's no fun to get ones undies in a bunch over something that won't be there, and probably won't be regardless of how much windging is done. meh..

Seriously, anyone who doesn't see what Nintendo is doing wrong, and gives two shits about online play, should get an Xbox 360, play some online games, then go back to the Wii.

There is absolutely no reason why you have to fight or watch nameless faceless opponents. None whatsoever.

Quoted for emphasis.

Why must everyone who's not friended be anonymous? Why the friend codes? Nintnedo needs to realize that children of overprotective parents are NOT THEIR ONLY AUDIENCE.

Blocking names, voice chat, etc. should be under parental controls, not mandatory. That, and they need to have a nintendo.com login name - based online service, something like Xbox live does.

The "Add rival" feature in metroid prime hunters was a baby step in the right direction.

Too much anonymity is going to blur the difference between playing strangers on the 'Net and playing high-leveled computers. Why go online in the first place if it feels like you're playing nameless, soulless machines who are better than you? Please Nintendo, quit removing the humanity from multiplayer.

I don't think you're helping your case much by responding like that...

Atma is for the most part pretty fairly critiquing the online capabilities (at least of what we know, who knows maybe there is something great in there). Although he could probably take a chill pill, I do agree with the points he's making; even if strong online play is not anything of great importance to me.

If it *was* important to me though, I might be a little frustrated to watch other people so resigned to the fact that the online looks to be on the weak side, much like Atma seems to be (frustrated at the weak online capabilities).

But meh, nintendo always seems to be a little behind on these sorts of things, they'll catch up eventually...I hope.

I honestly couldn't care if Brawl has online or not. Ok, that's not entirely true, but I'm not looking forward this game for the sole purpose of playing online. When I get Brawl, I'm going to be playing with my 6 other friends that have been eagerly waiting for this game too. I don't want to have to wait for a match up, play, wait again, and play, etc. This usually takes a few minutes per match with my experience in wi-fi games. I'd rather just have guaranteed matches whenever I want when we're at someone's house.

Having online play is just a bonus to me.

Xbox Live is amazing, but everyone knows Nintendo's online service will never be like this on the Wii. I love how people still complain about it like it's just being acknowledged as to what Nintendo's online service is. We're always going to have friend codes. It's not like someday Nintendo is going to announce "OK everyone, if you have a mynintendo account, that will now be your Wii online name! People can just add your name to your friend's list and it'll keep track of all of your games/online activity!".

Maybe some day Nintendo will get their feet wet in this online gaming world. I wish the next time when some game blog or whatever has an interview with someone big at Nintendo that they'll ask when or if they'll ever produce an online service that is on par with Xbox Live.

Both sides have their points in this debate. Personally, I think anonmyinty online is a blessing in some ways. As Geoffrey Taucer pointed out, it's good in that you don't have to deal with as much constant swearing, bragging, and just general douche-baggery. In some ways, this makes internet play more accessible to people who don't frequently play online to begin with.

However, by contrast, yes, it does cause issues with seasoned online players, which are a significant portion of the game's audience. I think Nintendo's opting to go the "safe" route for several reasons, most of which have already been discussed. While I do agree that I wish I could have an online handle, I care little about anything else. So, I personally don't have much issue with the current way Nintendo's doing the online play. *Shrugs*

I'm pretty sure the reason why people jump to conclusions on the online features is because their track record hasn't exactly been good or quite as advanced as its competition (POLLS on the Wii? ZOMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG).

Also, their ardent shooting-down of any and all hard drive, voice and other features just leads people to think it won't have the extended online features the other consoles do. It's simple empirical logic as far as online play is concerned.

I agree with Bigfoot though. Even with something like Virtua Fighter 5, the online feature is NICE, but it's definitely not necessary. It's just a bonus and not really something that will make or break SSBB.

"As Geoffrey Taucer pointed out, it's good in that you don't have to deal with as much constant swearing, bragging, and just general douche-baggery. In some ways, this makes internet play more accessible to people who don't frequently play online to begin with."

I have to disagree with that one. Because some games really are a haven for douchebags like in MMORPGs or slower FPS games where people can actually have more fun messing around and being jackasses than not. But SSBB and other fighting games really don't lend themselves to being very chatty games as far as online games are concerned. I still think it's more of a security issue with Nintendo since they're probably concerned more about litigation issues such as when people swear in game and online solicitations.

I've always had this theory, it's kind of silly, but it's a theory. The Wii is basically making Nintendo a ton of money, right? It's casual. It's successful, but for how long? Nintendo has made it clear that they are attracting the more casual crowd for this console, and it's obvious the little machine isn't "next-gen" graphics.

Now, what if, say in 2-4 years, Nintendo announces a console for the "hardcore". It's the powerhouse that everyone has wanted from Nintendo. Gaming in 1080p with noticeably better graphics than the 360/PS3 , multi-media center, and online gaming service that is like XBL. Didn't Nintendo say they didn't go the HD road because HDTVs aren't that common in households? That % is quickly getting bigger every day, so they'd have more reason now. They would then have control of both markets: the casual, and hardcore gamer. I guess this seems more like a fantasy, but anyway. Sorry about derailing the thread :P

Yeah but i probably wouldn't buy it right off the bat. but it would be super awesome. You're a pretty silly dude. Nintendo doesn't want to create more competition for itself... even if it's with itself. More people buying "W II" (see what I did there?) will cause a dip in Wii hardware & software sales. Even though Nintendo continues to rake in mountains of cash, their third parties once again will jump ship.

Also... this is about as cool of a final smash as you can hope for with the Ice Climbers.

I think people are forgetting a very important fact about voice chat.

You can mute people. Don't want to listen to them, mute them. Or if you don't want to talk to anyone you can just not use a headset. No serious problems can come from voice chat.

Also the fact that Wi-Fi is free doesn't excuse Nintendo from providing what I consider to be less than the bare minimum. It's not like Xbox Live costs much anyway ($50 per year = less than $5 per month).

Actually, they don't talk to each other much, but only because talking would betray their intentions to the opposing team. You can be sure they'd do it during the whole game if the other team couldn't hear.

Usually, all you hear is, "I got him." like calling it in volleyball, or "Sorry" when they KO their teammate. Other times, it'll be like, "Up" or "Back" when one Green Team guy has grabbed a Red Team guy, and the other Green Team guy tells him which direction to throw the Red Team guy for the combo. Again though, I'll say that they would surely be talking the whole match if they could only hear each other.

We should be thankful. They don't even have to give us any form of online service, but they do and it's free. If we were paying for Nintendo's current online system, I'd be pissed. I know, it's not that great of a system. People pay for XBL, so I expect it to be good, and it is. I don't care if it is only $50 a year.

I know, I know. Nintendo's online sucks. I'm not paying for it, so it's not like I should be bitching about something that is free. Bitching about it isn't going to change it. Maybe if Nintendo did a huge online survey that asked their customers how they felt about their online system, they'd see all the negative feedback. Maybe then they could change something.

I find it funny when people see this as 'whining' or 'complaining' when basically the only thing up for question is obviously the online mode. Again, the trackrecord says it will be pretty clunky + functional at best. I don't really care for it at all, but I understand the complaints. But seriously, I've been bitter about the Wii's online system since I first laid eyes on it. It worked perfectly on DS because of the fact that it's not that inconvenient to look at a computer screen and hook up with friends on a handheld. On a Wii it's a million times harder and less practical, and lacks some features that could seriously make this game blow everything out of the water, no criticisms required.

I think my favourite moments playing fighters with people were the days where me and online friends were playing King of Fighters while talking on Skype and just having a good time. It's been a while since I did that, but between all the joking and trash talk, you'd realize that being able to talk to the people you're fighting really makes a big difference in how much the potential for fun there can be when you actually have the option. Fighters for me have always been a social experience... a competitive one as well, depending on the game, but it's a good a reason I tend to play them more than most other games. You learn to appreciate having that opponent by your side for whatever you value having them most, whether it be to teach, to learn, or to talk and laugh.

I don't take for granted what I'm given and I don't think Atma is either. If anything I've come to appreciate the fact that he's honest about what he thinks. Other than that, I think we're done here, like Arek says.

Ok well now that that little saga is over and done with, (yea, we done?) let's move back to updates shall we?

Training mode looks good and Smartbomb is a long awaited idea.

But something caught my eye:

What the hell is up with the soccer ball? and that other white thing? Am I missing something here?

Soccer ball could be from Nintendogs or just any soccer game, and the other object appears to be a Volleyball. Could be from the NES game.

I'm guessing the soccer ball is from Animal Crossing, and the other white thing is a Smoke Ball.

Ahhh see? That's the Atma we all know and love

EDIT: Smoke ball, that's right. I forget. The soccer ball threw me off. I thought it was for an occassion like the Jack-O-Lantern. It looked a bit photoshopped.

I itch for the unveiling of a new character...

One in particular, in fact. Though the prospect is doubtful.

Oddly enough, as I typed this reply... the guy with the soccerball appeared in the upper right corner... very strange (>.>)

Mario's definitely throwing what seems to be a dodgeball that's flying above the hammer. I also don't think those items are from a game in specific...just seems fitting of Nintendo to add in odd sports balls ala the Mario [Sport] lineup.

The white thingie looks like a volleyball, but it could also be a dodgeball.

So now we have Will Ferrell confirmed...... BOOOOO!!!!!

Perhaps well see AT from a bunch of older Nintendo sports title coming after this? That would be cool..

Not sure who was the one who called it. But I would've been disappointed if there WASN'T a costume update sooner or later. About 6 different costumes is good news! I've never played a Metal Gear game, but the picture of three Snakes checking each other out makes me laugh.

Anyone know if Samus has the Phazon Suit (black with red lights) from Prime 1? I think everyone can agree that those are the coolest Samus suit colours to date. I wonder why we (by which of course I mean "I") haven't seen any Zero Suit alternate colours yet...?

Anyone ever seen the DK TV show, the 3D animated one? It totally had a Yeti character that looked like DK with white fur, but his name escapes me at the moment.... it rhymed with "yeti", I'm pretty sure...... "Eddie"?

tiger skin??!! TIGER SKIN!?!?!?!

Someone over at Sora must have been like, hmm, how can we make Snake look gay.... he's already in a skin tight suit, LETS THROW IN SOME TIGER STRIPES. UK YUK!

... geez... how about the just throw in "It's raining men" as his level music too while they're at it.

HELL, they should just make all of his color schemes pink leopard print too. To hell with it all.

well, his other camou's look cool. Dark Link and Fox look hella sweet. And Zelda in black looks awesome (it looks like her hair is almost a sleek white which looks really cool.) It does make me wonder what Dark Pikachu will look like ? ... maybe black devil horns and red eyes ... that would be very scary actually.

After playing some Metroid Fusion lately, trying to beat the SA-X at the end, and seeing the fusion color scheme on the site, anyone else think an X parasite would make a cool assist trophy? It could mimic a player and act like a computer controlled player for a bit or something, I dunno just a random thought I had.

Personally, I think the tiger skin camouflage is pretty badass. But that's just me. Dark Link, though, is probably the "coolest" alt. color scheme. I mean, everyone seems to love the idea. My favorite is probably the black dress Zelda, though! Zelda really needed a cooler color scheme than "pink and/or purple." Especially since, well, she's wearing a dress. Pink dresses are pretty tacky. It only works for Peach since she's the quintessential dumb blonde... and yet...

...so undeniably sexy! :<
