Arranging the music of one song...

"Battle 1"

Primary Game: Final Fantasy IX (Square , 2000, PS1), music by Nobuo Uematsu

Every once in awhile a ReMix comes along that blows your mind in all arenas - fantastic production, amazing instrumentation and musicianship, world-class recording, ornate and nuanced arranging, and impeccable attention to detail. This is not such a ReMix, but wait - don't go away so soon. Newcomer zid has submitted something that, while not flooringly refined, nevertheless has some real character. As the title suggests, this was created using guitar and a Nokia 3310 cellphone - you'll be able to pick out the cellphone real easily :) Orkybash sums it up well: "No, it's not the greatest technical mix. But I laughed my ass off at the cellphone, and every so often I think OCR needs a remix that isn't meant to blow you away by it's technical merit or arranging skill, but to make you smile while you listen to it." - guitars are actually both processed and played rather well, though throughout the piece there is an interminable and blatant bit of line hum. This certainly falls under the "use what you've got" category of artistic merit - I can assure you of this: were I or many people I know trapped in a room with a guitar and a Nokia 3310 cellphone and wanting to create a ReMix, the result would be far less pleasant. Whether you listen to this often or don't really "get" it and prefer those ReMixes that DON'T use personal communications devices in cruel + unusual ways, hopefully you'll see what we all saw, which was a pretty neat piece of music, in terms of arrangement and instrumentation, that's got a lot of soul. Next time you're on the go with your cell and your acoustic guitar, entertain your friends, family, or random passers-by with this plucky piece from zid.

Maybe I'm crazy, but despite the shrill cell phone, I really love the guitars in this remix. Not much else to say beyond that.

Can't really say this mix is much more than a novelty, but it is at least amusing for its cute use of the cellphone.

It sounds like it was recorded on a cellphone too. ____

The idea is cute, but I can't really say I enjoyed the execution. Sorry. :-(

Gotta say that this is a pretty nifty mix. Recording quality is pretty bad - especially by OCR's current standards, but it was pretty innovative for the time, especially the cell phone bits. Really predates all these people running around 'making music' with their weird little iPhone apps these days :nicework:

Hahaha just listened to this, laughed my ass off. This remix is brilliant. Just broke into laughter when I heard the phone come into the mix. Great mix to listen to.

Ooh, I love this. Right up my alley. I don't mind the blaring on the guitar, it fits right in in my opinion. The imperfection of the recording is half the charm. The cellphone is a bit piercing, though. Never mind that. This isn't just a funny track, the arrangement is really good, rather beautiful in places.

agree with the person who said this one doesn't get old

as much as i love the cell phone i wouldn't mind a version without it, and better recording quality.

but i still like it a lot!

I didn't understand what the title of this song meant at first. So I gave it a listen and laughed so hard when the phone kicked in. I thought the title was a joke. Other than the "Oh my god he used a cellphone" reaction, this is also a pretty cool mix. Downloaded.

I love this mix because of the innovation; it's great to see people branching out from more conventional instruments and creating things that aren't just meritable on the basis that they're an arrangement of a video game track, but are true works of creativity. Who knows, maybe someday we'll hear a theremin or a didgeridoo in a ReMix.

(Er, if either of those {live} instruments already are in a ReMix, please let me know.)

Oh man, this remix. It came up on the roulette and I instantly remembered it all.

It's funny and it's original and all that (CELLPHONE FTW), but MAN that sound quality is something awful. I'd like this mix a lot more if it didn't sound as bad as it does.

Wha? My cell phone is ringing...::procedes to take it out and answeres it:: Hello? ::battle music in the back ground:: Hello?! ::phone attacks my head:: AH!!!! ::throws the phone to the ground:: OH its on now! ::whips out his katana and whacking away at the demonic phone:: TAKE THAT! AND THAT!!! I always though that was a bad plan...A damn creative song, my friend. Tis indeed imaginitive. I enjoyed it. May i download it as a ringtone? HA...if only i had to fight my cell phone everytime someone called me...Keep up the great work...::steps on his phone and crushes it...::

.... uhhhh wtf? :S

Freaking awesome! Not in a technical, artistic, Move-Over-Nobuo kind of way. More like a What-can-I-do-to-throw-people-for-a-loop way. I listened to it and at first I laughed-quite a bit in fact. But before I knew it I was bopping along with the tune and actually looking forward to the Nokia's next feature. Long story short, this song is now on my Ipod. It's just so damn catch-y!
