ReMix:Lunar: The Silver Star "Blue Lament" 3:35

I'm beginning to feel like I've been running this site for a decade. I have to be honest, while dealing with many aspects of receiving, evaluating, and posting ReMixes is a blast, there are elements of doing this that are very grating and run contradictory to my instincts. I simply have very little time, especially to deal with egos and elitism instead of humility, helpful honesty, and openness. I'm only asking that people think about the four purposes of the site, as described at the beginning of the FAQ, every once in a while, so they don't forget them. It's very easy to do. So, as you might have guessed from my opener there, this ReMix reflects what I suppose is a bluer feel. It's a minor key, jazz / trip-hop take on the slower solo piano track from Lunar (Sega CD), but I also worked in the 'happy' town music after changing its key entirely to fit. Sub bass, piano, alto sax, ethereal pads, clav, electric piano, and jazz drums coupled with a nice brushed loop. 180 degrees from my last MegaMan mix, this was all done on a Yamaha Motif, no software assistance. Usually, I would end this with 'Hope you enjoy it,' but for some reason I don't much care on this one.

This makes me blue, because djp was feeling blue at the time. I should hope he's a lot less to feel blue over, and much more to be proud of, these daus : )

This song brings back memories - its been a while since I've last heard it. It's a nice song for the most part, although I wish the volume was brought more forward overall, and the drum scaled back relative to the rest of the song. The samples for the most part are still passable I feel.

Distinctly blue; this is aptly titled. Even better that it fits the game name as well.

I love the noodling with the clav and rhodes, and the atmosphere set with the piano and string bed. This really does have a different feel than the usual funky DJP fare, and it feels a lot more personal.

My plan was to review a group of tracks this morning, but this one really caught me, and i've been just grooving with it for a few hours. I think it's the combination of the instrumentation, the slightly-behind-the-beat playing, and the sparse comping that speaks to me.

Beautiful music.

Really interesting rearrangement of the sad piano theme here... Sounds like a completely different (and of course really good) song, almost. The original song's really simple, so there's a lot that can be done with it.

Some of the things I liked in particular were the piano part that comes in at 1:29 (in the background), the sax coming in at 1:43, and the piano coming in around 2:49 near the end. KF

This has been one of my favorites since I first started visiting OCR years ago.

If you ever liked chlling music, I recomend this. Why? Simple. Nice beat, smooth, easy piano, good base sounds and of course, nice jazz to it. I just had to post because this music is just too good. +A

I like this piece of art. I take it's from the village where tempest lives in? Or tempest's theme song?

A very nice piece by DJP, one of the most consistent Remixers on this site (and the owner, of course). Unfortunately, I never played Lunar myself, so I can't connect to the song beyond its obvious goodness.

The synth quality is not as high as it is in some of the others mixes, but the composition is excellent. And, that said, the synthing really doesn't bother me at all. But it would be cool to hear a live version, wouldn't it? It gets a 4/5 for superior craftsmanship.

This has been my favorite "cooldown" song for the past couple years now. I like it very much.

I agree

I was thinking of reviewing this song sometime

Surprisingly there are only 9 reviews here

This is such a beautiful piece it needs to be heard

I'm impressed DJP made this so long ago, and yet it still stands the test of time. Being very familiar with the source material - DJP capitalizes on the source material extremely well and expands on it with a great new take. Love the instrumental choices here too and the intimate mixing decisions taken. Not only one of my favorites by the pretz, but definitely one of the best on this site. Impressive and beautiful work.

Another one of your 'exception' pieces. It's got a flavour that I think stands a bit above the rest of your mixes. I keep coming back to it, it's really enjoyable. I don't know how you could've been so dismissive towards it; you must've been in a rotten mood that day. *Goes and reads FAQ to try and offer some kind of abstract comfort and support*

This piece has a nice, laid back jazz feel to it. I especially like the saxaphone melody at 1:43. Keep it up.

One of DJP's best. Even if you haven't played Lunar, download this song!

I dunno why but whenever I listen to this song, I have this compulsion to read, therefore allowing me to listen to this great song for a very long time. I find this song soothing, mind calming, and otherwise relaxing. A must for anyone who likes a slow, jazzy song.
