Took awhile for Stephen to send in his sophomore ReMix and took a longer while for me to post it. You might remember his Art of Fighting ReMix, which was just a tad rough around the edges but showed promise. This Sonic ReMix delivers on that promise with a lot cleaner sound, a good thick bass kick, some nicely modulated and filtered synths, and a generally quality overall interpretation of this minor-key Sonic track. Kinda sounds like a demonic circus theme, but in a cool way. Section at about 1'30" is a welcome respite from the main melody, which while addictive can tend to stick in one's mind against one's will. I especially dig at 2'22" when some meatier backing chords enter the fray and really bring things together. Good shit from Stephen Malcom, aka Malcos.

This sounds like the original source with strings a beat layered on top...yeah I'll pass.

The chromatic line gets annoying after a while, but part of me thinks that this is intentional. If it weren't repeated so many times, I would have enjoyed it more, because it's an interesting take on a very circus-y song. Creative work here, and withstands time pretty well, but it gets annoying fast.

The pads are really nice, but the drums seem a little thin, and I'm not sure if the chromatic "circus" line is in the original or not, but if it was, the game sound would totally be turned off. I hate that shit.

The piano near the end added a really nice rhythmic element to the backing chords straight up to the end.

I would enjoy this much more if it just cut the lead part out and was atmospheric. I realize that this is Malcos's mix, but it is frustrating to me as a listener when there is such a sweet mix with something I dislike so strongly in such a prominent position.

Ah well, sorry, I guess it just wasn't meant to be. :-(

About the mystic cave remix by Malcos, its a good mix but being in 128 kps maade me erase the song automaticly...for that kind of music, minimum would be 192kps or variable. Please, give your music a quality that it deserves!

I like this mix alot, but if anyone knows me (and none of you do, yet :P) they'd know that i always have something to gripe about. I think the little eight note intro from the original piece could have been added to the very end. Would have made the "finale" more interesting to me.

One of my fav. Sonic mixes of all time. It sounds so simple, but it's not. Just awesome.

I just wish that it could perhaps be redone with better sound quality. :?

I enjoyed this remix. Malcos did a really good job on this piece. I like the funk beat that goes with the tune...almost sounds like it came from a rap song!!!

one of the first OCRs i d/led, this has aged well with time. it’s a good step-up from the original. the cave was one level i hated playing (traps), and the music messed with my mind. Malcos maintains the same cautious air with that sweeping synth present throughout the entire mix, and also turns it into one addictive groove. dig that circus bass

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 'Circus Cave'

This mix is one of those ones where you can get that tune stuck in your head so deep that you end up humming it to yourself for the next couple hours because you got nothing else to listen too. So for those of you that get tunes stuck in the empty space above the neck easy, be careful with this one. There is quite a mystic atmosphere in this mix, something I could imagine coming from the end of a long endless cave with bats swooping down and rats on the floor. Don’t ask me what creature keeps a stereo hidden away in a cave though.
